The view back down into St Michel de Maurienne ¬Ýgives some idea of what this section is like - steep and winding to start with although it does ease off towards the Col de Telegraphe. From there until the climb up to the Galibier starts it’Äôs a pleasant mainly flat 15km and a chance to relax.
The last few km’Äôs up to the summit of the Galibier is an enjoyable ride if a little bleak. You might spot the odd marmot or two if you’Äôre lucky (and patient). They’Äôre shy creatures about the size of rabbits and you’Äôll see cartoon versions on t shirts, posters etc in most of the local towns.
